Nepali Taxi Driver In USA California Wins 1.96m Dollar lottery

A Nepali man who migrated to the United States seeking greener pastures last decade and has been earning his living as a taxi driver has won USD 1.962 million in the California Lottery’s Mega Millions game.

Mahendra Bahadur KC, 50, drives a yellow cab in San Francisco and lives in the Bay Area, according to MegaMillions.com, the official website of America's biggest jackpot game.

A perseverant KC had been buying lottery tickets for 10 years. And, the one that he bought for a dollar at a liquor shop in San Bruno, while driving his taxi, turned out be the manna from heaven for the struggling Nepali immigrant.
It matched five of the six numbers (11-19-24-33-51) in Tuesday night’s huge $414 million jackpot draw, according to Mega Millions.
KC collected the fortune on Wednesday morning. His family members were also present on the occasion.

“It’s just a life-changing situation here,” said his daughter Chandani, who was helping translate for her father. “Now whatever dreams we always had all together as a family, they’re going to be true.”

KC's wife works as a housekeeper at a San Francisco hotel and their children are studying.

According to his son Niranjan, the family plans to use some of its winnings to seek organ transplants for their grandparents, and to have KC’s chronic heart problem addressed. Also, the KCs hope to use the rest of the money to pay off the school loans that Chandani and Nirajan have taken.

After KC collected the cheque worth USD 1,962,339, his son said, "You know, we’ve worked so hard throughout our life. That’s all my dad thinks about is winning the lottery. Hopefully our lives change now. It’s pretty much an (American) dream come true.”
